Students start the butterfly project

students start the butterfly project

Fairfield Farm College has recently taken delivery of 32 caterpillars. A group of students had to measure out their food in individual pots and select a caterpillar to place carefully in their pot. The caterpillars measure between 2 and 3mm long. Peoples initials have been written on the lids so that we can track whose is growing the quickest, whose will turn into a chrysalis first and also whose will be the first to hatch out into a Painted Lady butterfly.

On Zoom, learners who are working from home can view their caterpillars and have discussions about the changes. We will post a video when they are released into Fairfields greenhouses in a few weeks time, so watch this space.
