Students enjoy a ‘socially distanced’ Sports Day at Fairfield Farm College

25th June 2020

STUDENTS ENJOY A 'SOCIALLY DISTANCED' SPORTS DAY AT FAIRFIELD FARM COLLEGE.

Students at Fairfield Farm College recently had fun in the sun, enjoying a ‘socially distanced’ Sports Day. “I thought this was particularly important as part of our Covid-19 ‘recovery curriculum’. I wanted students to feel that we can all still work together to be active & have fun whilst feeling safe” commented Rachel Bown, the Youth Sport Trust Inclusion Lead for Wiltshire who organised the Sports Day at the college.

Traditionally, the college has divided the students into groups and they would have rotated around activities. This year Fairfield Farm College needed to maintain 9 ‘bubble groups’ and ensure that the activities could encourage 2 metre distancing. Another factor also considered was the need to incorporate cleaning time between sessions and minimise movement time around the college. Due to this, the college decided to extend the event to span over 2 days.

On 24th June & 25th June, all Fairfield Farm College students participated in: Dance, Taekwondo, Tri-Golf, Vortex/Frisbee activities, Mini-Tramps & Taiko Drums. These activities were delivered by PH Sports, Taiko Journey, Caroline Newman (The Dance Lady) & Sinead Deedigan (Sion Health & Fitness). It was great to be able to involve these local businesses, as they have obviously been affected by the pandemic. Students loved working with different people and trying new challenges. A big well done to all the students and staff who made the Sports Days a big success.

Fairfield Farm College has remained open throughout the pandemic, with students and staff all well-rehearsed in the new safety measures in place. Nearly 70% of all students continue to access the college with a planned extension to the term to compensate for lost time.
