Changes to measures and guidance for managing COVID-19 in education and childcare settings from Friday 1 April
On Tuesday 29 March, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Sajid Javid, set out the next steps for living with COVID-19 in England from Friday 1 April.
Free COVID-19 tests will continue to be available for specific groups, including eligible patients and NHS staff, once the universal testing offer ends on Friday 1 April.

The population now has much stronger protection against COVID-19 than at any other point in the pandemic. This means we can begin to manage the virus like other respiratory infections, thanks to the success of the vaccination programme and access to antivirals, alongside natural immunity and increased scientific and public understanding about how to manage risk.

PROCESS FOR VISITORS TO THE HOUSES
Visitor Information
- To ensure staff can prepare residents and coordinate safe visits in good time, dates and times of visits will be organised in advance. Arrival times will be staggered to avoid overcrowding.
- Visitors must wear medical grade facemasks.
- PPE and antibacterial hand gel is available for use at entrances to the houses.
- Communal areas should be well ventilated, and social distancing observed.
- Visitors should not enter the house if they are experiencing symptoms of covid-19, or if they have been a close contact of a Covid positive case.
- For longer visits, named visitors (Such as family and carers) to be encouraged to use the garden for meeting and socialising to promote safety. If the weather is poor, communal rooms must be allocated ahead of time.
- For safeguarding reasons and safety in respect of Covid, visitors should not walk freely around the house without supervision.
